ALCHEMY 2013-2014
Over the period of 27th-30th March St Giles in the Fields Church was transformed into the setting of Alchemy, the Art Society’s 2013-14 exhibition. Society members produced an eclectic display of work, incorporating media such as batik, ceramics, prints, videos, interactive sculpture and even glowing algae.
The sold-out private view was largely facilitated by kind collaborations with other UCLU societies; the evening’s music was provided by the Jazz Society, and the Baking Society took charge of catering arrangements. A slightly unconventional addition to the church-based atmosphere was present in the form of tarot readings throughout the event.
A panel of eminent judges from both the academic and artistic worlds awarded five prizes to exhibiting artists, with Benjamin Leggett receiving first prize for his work Earth Mother– a black and white video projected onto a tomb.
The 2014-15 exhibition is set to expand upon the overwhelming success of Alchemy.
